Low Rollers End of Summer Bash

It was a foggy morning, not weather wise, but mentally. It had been a party hearty night for the P&OM crew after the Corvettes of Carlisle show the day before. (See show coverage in this month's issue.) Drinking so much wasn't such a great idea now that we had a drive ahead of us! Also on the not great idea list was drinking anything – seeing as we had to stop at what seemed like every fast food joint for a bathroom break on the way to New Jersey for the Low Rollers End of Summer Bash Car and Truck Show. The other handicap I had was a brand new sleeve of tribal flames that was only a few days old from California Tattoo in Savannah, Georgia.

It was a great day to rip up the back roads in Duval's hooked up Ford Probe. But no matter how great the ride, the back seat was torturous in every way: from the small size, to the lowered suspension smacking every bump in the road, to the fact that I had all six tons of my camera equipment sharing the space with me. As we neared the Salem County Fairgrounds, the traffic was moving very slowly toward the gate. I was ready to get to work shooting all of the killer custom work presented on low and high trucks, hotrods, and sport compacts. Many well known clubs such as Exclusive Styles, Down & Dirty, Negative Camber, East Coast Minis, Cali Styles, Creative Styles, and of course Low Rollers, were stretched across the grassy fields. It was a great day for the show: clear skies, nice temperatures and a fantastic turnout.

I moved quickly over the grounds shooting basically everything, ‘cause everything was looking sweet. The paint, body mods, and laid back attitudes made the show one of my favorites this year, and I can't wait to revisit it next year for it's eighth anniversary. Another reason for my quick coverage with only 439 photos taken was that damn black tribal tattoo that was kickin' my ass while the sun baked it. Yeah, not a good time for getting sleeved since I wasn't supposed to have new ink in the sun. Looking for shelter from the rays, I grabbed a spot under the Exclusive Styles tent and got to chill with some really cool club members.

Duval, Pudge, and I decided to tag along with ES to the local hot spots for the nighttime entertainment. Before we got our drink on, we had to pay patronage to Mike's Famous Harley-Davidson store just a few miles over the state line in Delaware. Mike's has a huge selection of bikes and apparel. It's a must see when you are crossing the Memorial Bridge splitting Jersey & Delaware.

Next stop: Hooters! The custom convoy rolled into the Hooter's parking lot and laid frame once everyone was situated. One of my favorite vehicles to see laid out is a crew cab dually. When Darren's big blue Chevy finally fit into its area, it stretched out and took up more than one spot. My mouth drops every time I see a laid out dually. I'll have one someday.

Hooter's was packed with the custom crowd, but the wait wasn't too long before a well-dressed server escorted us to a table on the deck. Hooter's is a favorite hangout for ES. One of the guys could actually recite the entire menu as if he used to wear the skimpy orange uniform himself. The beers were cold and delivered promptly to our thirsty party that was all hyped about the day's events and looking forward to a soon to be memorable evening on the town.

The next excitement came from Pecker when the Hooter's Girls were told that it was his birthday. And it actually was close to his birthday - if you consider a month away close. He put on a table dance surrounded by the girls that would make any mother proud - until someone de-shorted him.

After dinner, it was time to hang the keys at the hotel and designate drivers for the evening. We ended up downtown looking for a good time with the students of Delaware University. Yeah, that was a mistake! To put it lightly, if you don't make a six-figure income, or at least look and act like you do, don't even ask for a smile from the hotties. Maybe it was the thug-like clothing that most of our crew was wearing that kept most of the guys in our group femaleless. Of course, we sent out our scouts to try for a phone number. Ribs said he got shot down a total of 11 times and only got slapped twice. Nate Dog hit on every single (or maybe not single) female in the bar and claimed he almost got a phone number. Even though it was a tough crowd, we all had a blast and were staggering on the sidewalks by the close of business. Nate Dog, owner of Nate Dog Creations, and I stayed up 'till 4 am speaking drunkenese planning my next mission and project: to own a crew cab dually.

So...if you want to check out a great show with hot vehicles and a schedule of events that we didn't get a chance to attend (bikini contest), go to Low Roller's End of Summer Bash in New Jersey (for a listing of show winners, and next year's show date check out their site at www.lowrollers.com). If you do venture toward the downtown bars, don't forget to dress well and practice your intellectual conversational skills. My Abercrombie & Fitch beanie hat's only purpose, to keep my head warm, got me noticed for a brief second - until I showed her my new tatt. No phone numbers for me either!
