Our trip to Ocean City for Delmarva Bike Week in September proved to be a
great relaxing weekend. We had our reservation at the Stowaway Grand Hotel, the
host hotel of Bike Week, made by April. We had also reserved a room for the grand
winner of our Poker Run & Bikini Bike Wash that was held in August, and they were
thrilled to be going to the beach!
September 15-18 was the fifth year of Delmarva, and like all bike week
events, the local townspeople are very gracious in welcoming the visiting bikers in.
The vendors from the local area and that traveling in from out of town peddled all
types of motorcycle related items to the vacationers. Bandanas, boots, wallets,
helmets, patches, chromed parts and accessories - they had it all.
There are two different shows at Delmarva - the Ocean Downs racetrack and
the All-Star Chopper Show at the convention center.
Out at the racetrack, attendees could mis and mingle with builders like Doug
Keim, Indian Larry’s legacy, Charm City Cycles, Haus of Trikes, Savage Cycles, and
many, many more! While it was still a little warm out in September, the outdoor show
field was a great opportunity to take in the last glimpses of the ocean air.
Inside Ocean City, the All-Star show provided attendees an opportunity to get
up close and personal with the legendary builders bikes - Paul Yaffe, Eddie Trotta,
and Arlen Ness, just to name a few. A battle of the bands showdown that was being
filmed by BBC gave show goers some tunes to listen to as they walked the isles.
Spending one last weekend at the beach, during one of the last shows of the
year, was a great way to say good-bye to the 2005 season. We’ll be doing it again
next year September 14-17, and we’ll be giving away our grand prize of hotel
accommodations during our Poker Run in August, so make sure that you’re a part of
both events!
