That’s right - not rain nor wind nor snow will stop the staff of Drop of Ink Tattoo &
Body Piercing from delivering the mail. No, that’s not right. Well, you get my drift.
On the night that Pudge & I went to get to know the staff a little bit better, we were in
the first day of one of the snow storms that actually did hit Pennsylvania this year. The
roads were barren, and by the time that we left, the snow had accumulated to about half a
foot. But that didn’t stop Jamie & Steve from sittin’ and shootin’ the shit with us.
Jamie Finkenbinder and Frank Disborw are co-owners of Drop of Ink. Jamie has
been tattooing for about ten and a half years now, and Frank is one of the wielders of the
piercing guns. Elsewhere working in the Mechanicsburg shop are Steve Burke (tattooist
and shop manager), Chad Divel (tattooist and piercer) and Jared Foltz (tattooist).
Drop of Ink has been established for about a year now, but the relationships that the
staff brings into the building each day stem back over the past decade, with Jamie being
the glue that holds everyone together. Jamie and Jared first met when they started working
at ProInk within two weeks of each other. Steve was an apprentice under Jamie at Machine
Head. Chad was working at Visual Addiction and is the artist that completed Jamie’s
backpiece. So, with the start of a new shop, Jamie pulled his resources and brought this
great group of artists together.
So, what is the shop like? Well, like any other tattoo shop, it is pretty laid back. The
guys and the customers alike sit around for hours and bull with each other. It is known as
being the cleanest shops in the area, and one of the few shops that is totally smoke-free.
When you walk in the door, you immediately take notice of the murals that cover the waiting
area walls. Steve and Chad both dabble in airbrushing, and their wall art depicts different
Japanese characters.
