Excitement thundered through the gates of the Carlisle Fairgrounds July 21-23 as a parade of two-wheelers attended the 5th Annual Summer Bike Fest. A sea of motorcycles and riders took over the 82-acre fairgrounds for three days of fun, thrills and entertainment. One-of-a-kind sport bikes, custom bikes, classics, choppers and touring bikes were among thousands of motorcycles that overflowed the show field. Hundreds of vendors provided apparel, accessories and everything a biker could want.
For the action-conscious, AMA-sanctioned Motocross competition was on the agenda all weekend, Bike and Rider Ride-in judged bike show, an invitational Mid-Atlantic Custom Builder Competition, an invitational Custom Sport Bike Builder Competition, Observed Trials, competition with friends or the clock on the Teresi Dyno Drags, an opportunity to meet Connie Cohen, the Fastest Woman on Two Wheels on the East Coast, a Kawasaki Cruiser display, a great swap meet, interesting seminars, burnout competition, a beauty contest and so much more.
Michele Smith of American Thunder fame joined the best as custom-builders Dave Perewitz, Jerry Covington, Donnie Smith, Eddie Trotta and Russell Mitchell from Build or Bust as they discussed their latest builds, participating in interesting seminars, signing autographs and talking with fans.
Saturday evening Cumberland Kawasaki and Koup's Cycle Shop gave away a 2006 Ninja ZX - 6RR to a lucky ticket-holder (no purchase necessary). On Sunday, a Harley-Davidson FXDBI Street Bobª was given to another lucky rider. This giveaway was sponsored by Appalachian, Laugerman's, Susquehanna Valley and White's Harley-Davison Dealerships.
The "don't-try-these-at-home" stunts performed all weekend long by the thrill-a-minute Starboyz awed and amazed the audience. These guys are the "kings of the wheelies, stoppies, burnouts and other wild and crazy tricks on two wheels." And, the beautiful StarGirlz, newly famous from their 2006 calendar were on hand to accept just as much praise and attention as their male counterparts.
Michael Lichter and Sara Liberte, both highly-recognized motorcycle photographers displayed their works. Liberte, an avid biker conducted several seminars. Dale Coyner, motorcycle writer and author put on several seminars as well. Coyner, who is an expert in rides through the Appalachians shared tips on some great rides and interesting places to stay. He also demonstrated how to wire accessories like GPS and Satellite radio to your motorcycle.
