Motorama Events was held the weekend of February 19 & 20th at the State
Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg PA. This is the 27th year that the event has been
put on, starting way back in 1978. The founder of this event was unique in his idea to
bring indoor racing to Central Pennsylvania. Originally, Motorama was dubbed as the
Harrisburg Indoor Motorcycle Championship. Through the years, the racing event has
morphed, been modified, and now grown into such an affair that there is standing room
only for the Arenacross Finals competition on Sunday afternoon.
Motorama does not bring just enjoyment to its fans and participants. In the past
eight years, the event has raised over $120,000 for the Spina Bifida Association of
Lancaster County. They do this through donations from attendees, a Charity Auction,
and an audience participation style vote for the best vehicle.
On Sunday, the Ms. Motorama pageant is hosted, with a dozen competitors
vying for the title and crown. Once the grueling swimsuit competition and puzzling
interview questions are complete, the volunteer judges tally their scores and the new
Ms. Motorama is crowned. For the rest of the day, the winner and undaunted
competitors parade through the show to pose with vehicles for the proud owners to
gloat about on Monday morning over coffee.
All the while, racers are putting their backyard and basement practice to the test
by competing in various types of events and classes of races - bicycle, go-kart,
arenacross, quarter midget, motorcycle, remote control vehicles, even robot conflicts.
This really is a show that has something for everyone, from the athletic daredevil, to his
prom queen sister, to the nerdy younger brother that just plays with computers...the
whole family is sure to enjoy the weekend!
But don’t think that you have to wait until next year to get more racing action!
You can see edge-of-your-seat fun and excitement all year long at Trail-Way
Speedway, hosted by the same people that bring you Motorama. And, on May
21st, you can attend their other racing event, Sunfest. To get more information about
this and upcoming events, including when Motorama 2006 will be held, visit
