Daytona II
This section contains pics of what took place at the Daytona International Speedway, the Broken Spoke Saloon, and then some other random assorted pictures.
We headed out to the speedway midweek for a change of pace. There were many different timed trials going on at the track. We took the tour of Daytona USA, saw the history of how the track came to be, learned about when some great speed-breaking records were set, and did a simulated ride of driving a car during a race (let's just say that it's a good thing it was only simulated when I drove!)
There was a portion of the tour where they put everyone on a little tram and drove you out onto the track. When you watch races on TV, you just can't comprehend the angles of the corners of the track. They have to be going over 120 mph into the corners just so that they don't fall off of the track. It's crazy to stand and look up at that to try to understand it. Just totally crazy! Anyways, we were out on the track during a few of the timed bike trials and got to see them whizzing past at some insane speeds. They were moving! I love the speed that you can obtain on a bike, and that feeling that if you don't hang on, you're going to be sucked off. But I think that might be a little too fast for me!
Keith & Bob ventured out to the Broken Spoke Saloon by themselves late one afternoon while Krista & I took a nap. There was soooo much to do and see during the week, that we needed our beauty rest! The boys got a taste of the classic saloon which sets up shop at every major bike rally. The Broken Spoke is set up in a huge empty field and welcomes bikers to sit down, take a break, and chill away from the crowd. There is a gigantic stage that welcomes bands playing a more laid-back, classic biker sound. But don't get me wrong, there is still plenty to do! There is loads to drink, an ample amount of scantily-clad ladies serving you, and a burnout pit to enable you to safely get rid of your tires that are worn out anyways. For a sure bet on having a good time, you can always count on the Broken Spoke!
