Pudge and Duval visited DC Cruisers on May 1st when they were having their Bikini Bike Wash. When you hear about a really cool shop, you build up your expectations to include maybe a sofa, some TV, and a pool-table, if you're lucky. Take all of those pre-conceived ideas and throw them away. This is beyond comparison the greatest bike shop that we have seen thus far.
Scott Lubore opened DC Cruisers in September 2003 with one mission: to change the image of biking in Washington D.C. I don't know if he has changed people's perception of bikers, but he built one bad-ass shop. If you are ever in Gaithersburg, do yourself a favor and stop at the 11,000 square foot full service facility - it's well worth the trip.
D.C. Cruisers offers new and used bikes, a parts department, and a full line of men's, women's and children's apparel. With a service department able to service all American V-Twin motors, there's not much they can't fix. Then load on top of that free hotdogs, coffee and the occasional barbeque. Still not enough? Check out the twenty-foot movie screen.
But the kicker for this kick-ass hangout is the fact that they have an on-site professional tattoo artist! Despite all the food, tattooing and a big screen, D.C. Cruisers is still a bike shop. They have over forty bikes on hand including such brands as American Ironhorse, HellBound Steel, Big Mike's Choppers (BMC), Vengeance Motorcycles, Redneck Engineering, and Indian Motorcycles.
From all that Pudge and Duval have told me about the shop, I'm really pissed that I wasn't there, but can't wait to plan my own trip down. They have a ton of events going on throughout the year at their shop, including a raffle this past year that benefited the Montgomery County Law Enforcement fund and Officer Kyle Ollinger, sponsored in part by Kid Rock that raised over $30,000. To check the shop and attend any one of their events, contact the crew at D.C. Cruisers at (301) 591-1111 or check out their website and calendar of events at www.dccruisers.com.
