The 2004 Northeast Invasion Series made its second stop at the Hershey Giant Center on Sunday, May 2nd. It was really overcast, and we were worried about getting rained out at any minute during the day, but other than a few sprinkles, the downpour held out until later in the evening. This is the largest show that was judged by the National Custom Car Association (NCCA) last year, and it was easy to see why.
There were a crap load of great cars present, and the trophies that were awarded were worth the multiple cleanings that took place through the day. Formula 101 Racing and NCCA judges had some tough decisions to make. The show has a ton of sponsors, including Meguires, Stoner Car Care, VW Forum.com, Wingate Inn, McNews Automotive, Creative Car Tunes, Signfeld Signs, Hoodpins.com, Girlzspeed, WR Team.com, Fox Marketing, MSI, and Funtastik.
This was one of the first Import shows that I had attended, and I have to admit that I was really impressed with the show. As I mentioned this was an NCCA sanctioned show; if you don't know about NCCA, check out their website at www.nationalcustomcarassociation.com.
The short explanation of NCCA is that members of the Association compete at shows throughout the season. If the show is sanctioned by NCCA, the results of the competition convert into points. What makes this competition different and exciting is that the NCCA point system makes it possible for someone with a moderately modified vehicle, who is visibly seen on the show circuit, able to earn as many points as a trailer car which makes limited appearances. The competition isn't over after one show - it continues all season long! At the end of the season, the members with the most points have the chance to earn a national title and a cash prize.
In addition to the car show taking place, there were contests to get attendees involved: the best female booty shake, the best male break dance, and raffles to win car care kits and a pocket bike.
The Invasion Series still has one stop left on this year's tour: Tunerwar at the York Fairgrounds in PA on August 21 & 22. It should be interesting when they have one show combining compacts and monster trucks! Check out the website for more info: www.importwar.com.
Pudge and I had our own high at the show: when were talking to people promoting this great magazine that you're reading, and people already knew about us! Thanks to all of you spreading the word - you rock!
