Previously known as the Carlisle Custom Compact show, the new and improved Modified Madness show cruised into State College’s Bryce Jordan Center the weekend of May 21st & 22nd where 1,469 cars competed for the coveted trophies that were being awarded by the NCCA judges.

The weather was cool Saturday morning, but the day proved to be a typical spring scorcher, with the sun peaking in and out throughout the day and the clouds hovering overhead to drop buckets of rain at any time.

Arriving bright and early at the Center, we headed inside to have a meet & greet with celebrity personalities DJ Skribble and Dave “The Fishman” Rivera. Rivera is one of the premier audio installers in the nation, known for his ICE, and has created some of the most outrageous vehicles you’ve ever seen. During the weekend of Modified Madness, he unveiled his newest creation, Fishpedition, a modified Ford Expedition. He talked with us about his island roots, growing up creating his own hand-crafted play toys, and how that influenced him to want to work with his hands in making a living for himself as an adult.

Also present at the show were special guests Big Dane and Q from West Coast Customs, featured on MTV’s “Pimp My Ride”, as well as entertainment provided throughout the weekend by the StarBoyz stunt riders.

Inside the Bryce Jordan arena, vendors set up their wares to entice attendees with the newest trends and hottest accessories. Mixed in with the vendors and in the surrounding parking lots, the highest quality of cars displayed their entertainment systems, extreme paint and graphics, and overall modifications that took these cars a notch above all others.

State College then welcomed their visitors into the community Saturday evening, with a police-escorted caravan that traveled through the streets of Happy Valley. The one problem that this show has had in the past, that it resolved with the parade, was the free time that attendees had on their hands in the evenings, and the activities that resulted from that. A burnout contest, SLAP audio contest, and beauty contest, judged by audience applause, also added to the weekend’s festivities.

The big winners for the weekend were WR Team, with the most participants, Emotion ‘s team had the hottest display, and Revtech Tunerz club had the vehicles that earned the highest average of points. To see the complete listing of vehicles that took home awards, check out NCCA’s site.

Show dates and a location have not yet been announced for next year’s show, but we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as we find out. For all of the Carlisle Events shows that take place throughout the rest of the year, check out www.carsatcarlisle.com.
