In our March issue we had a tattoo feature on Doug who had placed on himself tattoos that were Watching...Always Watching. This month's tattoo feature is the opposite - Mike's tattoos prefer that you Stop Staring.
The first thing that caught my attention when I saw Mike at the Drawin' the Wildcard convention in Atlantic City was the Frankenstein tatt on the left side of his neck. It's odd, and no offense to Mike since he's not green, but the monster image mimics the persona that he projects of himself.
Mike Kohler is an artist himself at Mr. B's Tattoos in Baltimore, Maryland. He has been getting tattooed since he was 18; his first inking was a punk rock clown head on his upper left arm. That is now covered by his sleeve - a bio-mechanical hour glass which reminds Mike daily of the fact that "Time's Up". The loss of time continues down his arm to end on his hand with the depiction of a skull with racing flags.
Covering the front of his chest is a sacred heart. After viewing all of the intricate abstract detail on his upper body, Mike chose to show his support of the Ravens by adding their logo to his right ribcage.
Continuing his ink onto his right arm, we discover his second sleeve, Japanese Samuri's battling the ever continuing war of good vs. evil. Mike's mechanical side shows itself again on his right hand where he has a green skull with racing pistons erupting into the flames that transition into his sleeve.
Across the front of his fingers, he has the word DISORDER as a permanent reminder of the disorder and chaos existent today. Elsewhere, Mike has a gold crown tattooed on the right side of his neck, and a Tiki mask that erupts from his right calf. They are all reminders of times and places in his life.
