It was a very rainy weekend on June 4-6, 2004, and it really isn't the most fun (or the easiest task) to take pictures of an outdoor show in the rain while holding an umbrella. But, I did it; for all of you out there in viewer land. And the Street Rod Nationals East was actually a pretty cool show to be at.
When it rains in the minitruck world, we mostly just bag the show - sit at a hotel and drink all weekend if we have already traveled out of our hometown to be at the show, or hang out at the house all weekend and do anything except think about taking our show vehicle out in the rain. But in the Street Rod world, a little rain never hurt anything - especially since these vehicles have been waiting over 50 years to be seen!
Most of us aren't as familiar with Street Rods as we are with the newer generations of cars & trucks, but check out what the older generation can still do! Throughout the showfield and inside the Expo Center, there was the same quality of shaved handles, clean interiors, intricate detailing on some sweet paint jobs, and suspension modifications that we would see anywhere else.
Though the tarps and tents that protected many of the open tops took away from being able to look at everything up close, the rain didn't deter the attendees from driving hundreds of miles to show off their pride and joy. From trolley cars to restored rollbacks, pull-behind trailers to police cars, anything that you can image that was manufactured earlier than 1948 was in York.
If you would like to take a trip down memory lane yourself next year, be present June 3-5 at the York Expo Center in York PA, or visit www.nsra-usa.com for another show near you. Hopefully, we'll have clear skies and a sunny horizon!
